Is it safe to travel/vacation in the Caribbean?

February 9th, 2010 | by admin |

All of the islands are safe for vacationers on resorts. If you go from the airport to a resort, stay on your resort, and go back, then you are fine anywhere.

If you intend to actually explore a Caribbean island outside of the resort, they vary greatly in safety. Haiti is very dangerous and should be avoided. Parts of Jamaica are very dangerous, but the resort areas Montego Bay, Negril, etc. are mostly safe, and if you know what you are doing you can travel around the rest of the island fairly safely. Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, and San Juan in Puerto Rico have very interesting historic neighborhoods that are safe. If you intend to explore other parts of those cities, especially at night, you should know where you are going. Outside of the places I mentioned, most of the smaller cities, small towns and beaches in the Caribbean are safe.

Yes it has a lot of American owned land. Mexico is the place to beware of. They are getting out of hand down there and now it is coming across the boarder. Yikes!

Yes, generally. Every cit and country has unsafe places to stay out of. If you go the the US State Dept web site, they will list out exactly what the risks are in each country.

Did Natalie Holloway get murdered in Aruba? Yes.
Was she drinking late into the night with strangers? Yes.
You always have to use common sense wherever yu go.
